Delete your account
App: Illumin · com.illumin.app · Clinton Onaiwu
Your library lives on your phone, so it is not part of this. Only the account is.
In the app
This is the quickest way, and the only one that takes effect immediately. Open Illumin and go to You → Account → Delete account. You will be shown exactly what goes and what stays, sent a six-digit code to confirm it is really you, and asked to confirm once. Then it is done.
Without the app
If you have already uninstalled Illumin, email privacy@illuminreader.com from the address on your account, with Delete my account as the subject. We will reply to that same address to confirm it is yours, and delete the account within 30 days of confirming — usually the same day.
Please send it from the account's own address. It is the only way we can tell your request from someone else's, and we will not delete an account on a request we cannot verify.
What is deleted
Permanently, and with no way to recover it:
- Your email address and sign-in. The account itself.
- Your AI allowance and its history — including the explanations and scene descriptions our server kept in order to avoid charging you twice for the same request.
- Highlights, notes and bookmarks synced to your account, and the copies of your book details: titles, authors, covers, reading positions and progress.
- Every illustration you kept. These live only in our storage, so they go with the account.
- Your preferences — theme, typeface, read-aloud settings and the rest.
- Your subscription record, and the link between your account and RevenueCat, which handles subscriptions for us.
What stays on your phone
None of this is ours to delete, and deleting your account does not touch it:
- Your books. They are your own files.
- Their highlights and bookmarks, and the local search index built from the books' text.
Reading carries on without an account. If you want the books gone too, delete them in the app or uninstall it.
What we keep, and why
Two things survive deletion. Both are named here because the law requires us to say so:
- A one-way scrambled fingerprint of your handset. The free AI allowance is one per device rather than one per account — otherwise it could be reset simply by deleting an account and making a new one. What we store is a keyed hash that cannot be reversed, identifies a device rather than a person, and contains nothing about you. Erasing it would defeat the only thing stopping the allowance being claimed over and over on one phone.
- De-identified billing records. How many tokens each AI request used, what it cost and when — with no link back to you. This is the record of what our providers charged us, and we have to be able to reconcile it.
One thing to do first, if you subscribe
Deleting your account does not cancel Illumin Plus. Subscriptions are held by Google Play, and only you can cancel one — we cannot do it for you. Cancel it in the Play Store under Subscriptions before deleting your account, or you will keep being billed for a service you can no longer reach.
